Ingenious but unreliable |

Because this fits the bill for playing both GH3 and RB on my PS3 it's nice.
Visually it's like a cross between a wired GH SG Guitar and a Rock Band Strat. Like the SG it has the aame plasticky finish. Same fret button style. Same clicky strum bar. Same short whammy bar. But with the extra bells & whistles of the RB guitar.
Performance-wise it's no better than the unreliable GH3 Les Paul that I desperately wanted this to replace. In fact I think it's a bit less reliable. Frequently I'll have 2-3 second spans where strumming does not register at all. Luckily the fret buttons seem to register pretty reliably but you have to push them directly in the center to work. Pressing the edge of the fret buttons often won't trigger.
Also the strum bar is very loose. Whenever you strum there's a loud, distracting rattling sound when the strum bar returns to center. Can be fixed by opening up the guitar and shimming the plastic piece that secures the pins of the strum bar in place.

i bought this guitar because I have Guitar hero and Rock Band don't want to by a second guitar for both games.
At first it was my second guitar my friends would play with, but now i find myself using it everytime i play.
I like the fret buttons about as much as i like the guitar hero buttons. But the fret buttons are way better than my rock band guitar.
Overall this guitar saved me from having to buy two guitars and so far I am happy with my purchase.

This is the first 3rd party peripheral I have purchased for my PS3. Overall its a good controller. I am a bit disappointed that you cannot play GH II on the PS3. We did use it on a PS2 and it worked perfectly. I was able to play GH I on the PS3, but the lag on my HD tv was so bad that it was not worth playing. The only complaint I have with the guitar itself is that the neck is too thick. I cannot get my hand around it to hold it, so I have to keep my thumb behind the neck instead of gripping it. I still plan to buy a Black Widow when they are available.

When compared to the RB Stratocaster The Good: Effects lever is out of the way, I can successfully strum up and down, whammy bar is better. Cool stickers. The Bad: Strumming "down only" doesn't work as well. The buttons are harder to press especially with your pinky finger. This is compounded by the fact both sets of buttons are farther apart which cause you to use your pinky where you wouldn't with the Stratocaster. Maybe mine is broken but "tickle" doesn't describe how you need to tilt this guitar. A better word would be "bludgeon". The Other: The neck is thicker. They moved they start/select buttons. Also, put a sticker on the yellow button b/c the raised "identifier" will make your finger hurt. I couldn't use the 360 feature (due to the earthquake in China) but as I probably won't use this guitar much it won't matter. In Conclusion: If you really want 1 guitar to work with multiple games, get this, otherwise, get controllers designed for the individual games.

I own 2 of the original Freedom Vs for the PS2, and they are the finest controllers available. The new ones? Well, they aren't the same.
Gone is the shiny paint and metal flakes. These are flat plastic, not even glossy. These are not as heavy as the originals, either. These are like a cheap imitation of the originals. They feel cheaper in every respect.
As long as I can play GHI & GHII on the PS3, then I can overlook the quality issues. There are '4 in 1 Compatibility' logos all over the site, and on the box, too. Well, that just aint the case. You can play all games on the PS2, but on the PS3 you can play GHII and Rock Band. Period. The advertising for these is very deceptive. How many people bought these to play their original GHI and GHII games? I know I did.
Bottom line, I am disappointed. I feel like I was lied to about what these guitars would do. TAC used to be the best, and I was a huge supporter. I wish I could still say that.
TAC NOTE : The guitar will play GH1 on PS3 if you set the switch on the receiver to PSII and your PS3 firmware is updated to the latest version. This guitar will not work with GH2 due to the code change, as far as we know, no one is successful in making this combination work, not even Activision.
